After 4 days at sea, we reach Port Louis, Mauritius, welcomed by dancers.
Mauritius, approximately 2,000 km2 in size with 1.3 million inhabitants and the capital Port Louis with around 150,000 residents. Once completely forested, today only about 15% remains, while 40% of the area is sugarcane.
Mauritius has been independent since 1968 and has been a republic since 1992. A multi-ethnic state with English as the official language, written French, and spoken Creole, along with legislation of English/French origin.
The first day in Mauritius is dedicated to playing golf at the Anahita Golf Club.
The second day takes us primarily to the south of the island, to the waterfalls of Chamarel, the Chamarel Geopark with its 7-colored earth, the Black River with views of the original rainforest (biosphere reserve), the sacred lake 'Grand Bassin', a Hindu temple where a 33m tall statue of Lord Shiva greets you at the entrance, a workshop for ship models handcrafted in pure craftsmanship, and finally a viewpoint from the crater 'Trou aux Cerfs'.
In the evening, we leave Mauritius heading towards South Africa.
