8.8.25 Calheta, São Jorge->Magdalena, Pico. The alarm goes off at 6:45 AM. By 7:20 AM, we have everything packed. The taxi arrives on time at 8 AM and takes us to the harbor. Two buses to Velas leave at the same time. We take the one via Norte Grande and get an additional half-island tour. We can leave our backpacks at the library. We find a nice spot at the café in front of the church and have breakfast. There is a lot of activity at the ferry terminal. We check in our luggage and wait another half hour until we can board the ferry. The upper deck is fully occupied today. We don't stay long in our seats; instead, we spend half the time at the railing. In between, we get a bit of rain, which quickly passes. With our backpacks on our backs, we head to the office of a whale tour and can book two spots for tomorrow. Now we are curious about the campsite, which has poor ratings online. After the first impression, we are quite satisfied. The sanitary facilities are clean and well-maintained. There is a lot of open space, but it's difficult to gauge the shade. After a break, we go to the sea and swim. Afterwards, we walk along the coast to the harbor, do some shopping, and cook. Pasta with tomato sauce and anchovies.
