Rom, Italien

Rome is a world of its own, lively yet incredibly fascinating. There’s so much to see everywhere, with new stimuli around every corner.

Our day began with breakfast, as usual, then we headed towards the Colosseum, where we received our tickets and the access code for the audio guide nearby.

First, we visited the Colosseum with zero waiting time. Quite impressive but quite crowded with tourists. No matter, we enjoyed it, then we moved on to the Palatine Hill with its impressive ruins of the imperial villa and indescribable views over all of Rome. Down to the Roman Forum, to Trajan's Column, further to the Pantheon, the Tiber and Castel Sant'Angelo, and finally to the square in front of St. Peter's Basilica. Here I wanted to show Nobby my personal highlight and insider tip, so we walked past St. Peter's Basilica on the left. At the barrier, a friendly Swiss guard saluted us. And after I indicated in my Italian that we wanted to go to the German Cemetery, he informed us in German with a Swiss accent that the cemetery was only open until noon 😞.

Well, a small frustration beer at the edge of the Vatican and then back with the metro to the hotel.

In the evening, a delicious meal at the small restaurant in the neighboring house, an ice cream at the best gelateria in Rome according to Google (which was really good), and then back to the hotel.

Tomorrow it's Ciao Roma.
