In the land of the hobbits

Published: 06.03.2020

Heyy, yesterday the day started a little hectic because we overslept. So we quickly got ready and had breakfast. Then we went to the bus stop.

When we arrived at the bus stop, we had to wait a little while. But we already met two other German girls, our age.

During the 2 1/2 hour bus tour, we passed the time by sleeping and checking our phones, as the bus offered free Wi-Fi.

For lunch, we made a quick stop in Matamata and grabbed something at Subway.

When we finally arrived, we first went with our group to a souvenir shop before we actually went to the land of the hobbits. 🤩 Our group had a guided tour of the facility. Everything was explained to us in detail, where the scenes were filmed, how the houses were built, and much more. In total, we walked through the facility for two hours and could admire the cute little houses.

After the tour, we were treated to a drink. We had the choice between beer and non-alcoholic beer, of course, Mareike and I chose the beer, an apple cider. However, it wasn't that easy to get the beer. We had left our passports on the bus and according to New Zealand regulations, if you look younger than 25 and don't have an ID with you, no alcohol can be served to you. So we prepared ourselves to have to drink non-alcoholic beer, but our guide asked us which kind of beer we would like and gave it to us, lucky us! 😉

Then we went back to Auckland, another 2 1/2 hour bus ride, but this time we only slept! 😅😴

Back at the hostel, we arrived just in time for the BBQ on the rooftop terrace. Almost all of the backpackers had dinner together and chatted.

During the evening, alcohol, our beloved wine, was added and we enjoyed the last evening in Auckland. 🥂

Best regards from Auckland, New Zealand! 🇳🇿

Yours, Jojo 💫
