Traveling at 300km/h, I took the maglev train from the airport to the city of Shanghai. First impression: Extremely clean, well-maintained, not overcrowded, and little traffic. It might also have been because it was Saturday (after all, there are 25 million people living here!!). First course of action: Grab some food! So, I stumbled into the nearest snack bar that carried wonderful steam scents and was not disappointed. Strong meat broth and a chef smoking in the shop - what more could one want?

Traveling 300km/h to the metropolis of 25 million.
A delight!

Afterward, I headed to 'The Bund', the famous riverside promenade, from where one can overlook the iconic and imposing Shanghai skyline. Of course, the obligatory statues of socialist aesthetics were present at the waterfront. Then, I walked to the Yu Yuan Garden, the old center of Shanghai, which has been extensively restored, though it feels somewhat artificial. Those familiar with the new Frankfurt Old Town will find a suitable comparison. To wrap up, I enjoyed soft serve ice cream and bubble tea while observing the lively activity and dancing in the nearby Gucheng Park.

It was beautiful!

For public transport, you simply hold your VISA card to the contactless field (very straightforward). However, security is taken seriously and before entering any station, a security guard will scan your bag. Then I took the subway back to the maglev train and returned to the airport with it. Next stop: Hanoi 🇻🇳
