On Saturday, July 13, we bid a heavy-hearted farewell to the Bohinj district and our host Anja.
We had arranged to meet the Friedrich family at the caves of Postojna, as our friends happened to be vacationing in Slovenia as well, but further south.
After the serene idyll in the Julian Alps, we were overwhelmed by the mass tourism in and around the Postojna caves.
Eventually, we took a train together to the depths of the cave, which is constantly cold at 10 degrees Celsius.
After 2 km, we got off the train and received a guided tour for the next 1.5 km, and at the end, we even got to see the legendary cave salamanders.
After the cave tour, we enjoyed pizzas together, exchanged stories, and parted ways again in the parking lot, as we were heading to Croatia and the Friedrichs had another week in their accommodation.
We didn't reach the ferry until around 7 pm, which was supposed to take us to the island of Cres at 8 pm.
Another hour later, we crossed a bridge to the island of Losinj, where our host Zeljko showed us our little house for the coming week. Even though it was already dark, we could feel the idyllic southern atmosphere.
We chatted for a while with slivovitz and "kniften" and listened to the cicadas before we went to bed, completely exhausted.
