We continued westward, passing a large shipyard, a steel mill from Dillinger France, and the start of the Eurotunnel. Initially, we had planned to make our next stop in Calais and visit the ferry port to Dover. However, the camping and motorhome sites in Calais were fully booked or incredibly expensive, so we decided to just keep going. In Wissant, twenty minutes later, we found a suitable parking spot.
Here, we also discovered a brilliant method to repurpose old telephone booths as book exchange stations. Then we took our beach walk and could actually see the chalk cliffs of Dover on the northwestern horizon, without binoculars and better than we had expected.
During a little break to enjoy the sound of the waves, we observed for quite a while a little sandpiper nest with three eggs.
At the local fisherman’s, we finally bought crab salad and salmon quiche for tomorrow’s breakfast and a large piece of cod fillet for dinner.
We would also stay one more day here, as tomorrow would be Sunday, and we wanted to hike to the viewpoint for an even better view towards England.
