once again workshop

Worth seeing
Fiat-Nutzfahrzeuge-Werkstatt

At the beginning of November, we took Gary to the Fiat commercial vehicle workshop, as he was supposed to become our holiday vehicle for the coming year and he still had a moderately serious oil problem. No matter where he was parked, he lost at least 2-3 drops, and how much he lost during driving was unfortunately not easy to determine. We had already inquired at all the workshops we knew, but either Gary was too high, too wide, or too heavy for the passenger car workshops. So, we were left with the search for a specialist workshop that could handle the big oldie.

On Thursday, Sebb had parked the motorhome at the workshop and agreed with the friendly mechanic that they should first take a look at the vehicle to give a rough estimate of how long, how complicated, and how expensive the repair would be.
The following Monday came the callback. The workshop had looked at the vehicle and the engine was dripping with oil; that wasn't news. However, the problem for the authorized workshop was that due to the commitment to Fiat, they could only order original parts from the manufacturer. These could no longer be procured after such a long time; they inquired at Fiat and received the information that the engine parts were no longer being produced, making a repair impossible.
“Impossible?” echoed Sebb through the phone.

“At least for an authorized workshop.” was the response. “If you find someone who deals with such old engines and can also use replica parts, then it can surely be fixed at a corresponding price.”

Despite this small glimmer of hope for repair, we initially had quite a lump in our throats, had we made a mistake and bought junk for a lot of money? Was Gary doomed to automotive death?
