We started heading west again. Today's goal was Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer and the local museum dedicated to D-Day, known in France as “le Jour J.”
Right here on the beach, large parts of the American troops landed on the morning of June 6th, 1944, to free France and later Germany from Nazi rule. The British and Canadians landed a few kilometers away on beach sections further east.
It was nice to see that despite the historical events from over 80 years ago, right behind the war memorial there was a beautiful beach where people were naturally swimming.
We wandered along the beach again, over the dunes, through the village, and back to our parking spot. Although the Côte de fleurs - the Flower Coast - was already behind us, even here the front gardens were richly planted.
