Mobile phones in Kazakhstan
It is no surprise that the use of mobile phones shapes everyday life in Kazakhstan. “Hans look up” has become obsolete here - just like around the world. The mobile phone takes on a caregiving role, relieving parents in their daily routines and hampers upbringing. Numerous children possess English terms they have acquired through YouTube. Little Amir calls out “Help me!” and his parents are indeed proud of this child prodigy who can count to 10 in English and sing the English alphabet. However, he likely does not understand what he is singing - it nonetheless shows that the acupuncture he receives weekly is yielding results. Makes sense, right?
Technical know-how
It took quite a bit of puzzling for a resident to explain to me what the clothes hanger-tin can construction is about (see photo). It's an antenna construction. A creative professional was certainly at work!
Garbage collection
Foul-smelling garbage collection points are set up every 3-4 streets. Disposal requires the effort of several men. Muscle power is needed as the heavy containers can only be dragged across the ground due to damaged wheels.
