Observatory and La Orotava 🔭

Published: 31.01.2024

43 km drive to the solar observatory. But 2,400 meters of altitude! Our little Fiat 500 had to fight hard to make it up the slope. And we were lucky that the dry Calima wind was blowing and there was no snow this time!

But the effort of the car was worth it for us. Guided tour of the observatory in a small group (there were four of us). Great!

Here, since the 70s, 32 nations have been working: each for itself and also together!! Some set up an observatory. The 'rent' in Tenerife is that the Spaniards are allowed to use the observatories 20% of the time - a good idea!

If you are interested in the topic and not currently traveling to Chile, Hawaii or Tenerife/La Palma (where the largest observatories in the world are located), you can visit the Muchelndorf Observatory.

Dear Jochen, do you also offer guided tours? https://sternwarte-muchelndorf.de

On the way back, we visited the most beautiful place on the island:

La Orotava: There we meet Birte and Jens who are visiting here with the Aida cruise ship right now!!
