Florida Dream Tour Day 5
The morning after a hearty breakfast, we set out on the somewhat longer journey to Cape Coral. We had rented an entire house through Airbnb that we were very excited about. So,...

The day started with a greeting from the sweet little bunny, who was already waiting on the terrace for his carrots. And since I just couldn't wait, I jumped into the pool early in the morning and began the day with a swim — you only realize what you miss once you've enjoyed it 🙈. Then we did our planning for the day — we wanted to go to a wildlife preserve in the mangrove swamps. So we packed water in the car, a few cookies for a little hunger, and off we went.
Check out the pictures above; we really saw a lot during this rather warm walk through the humid mangrove world. Thank goodness there were no mosquitoes, but we did see squirrels, snakes, and tortoises, and a whole lot of greenery and water around us. However, thanks to the paved wooden paths, it was a lovely way to experience nature. It wasn't until the next day that we learned we had encountered two of the most venomous snakes in Florida, which are not seen very often. In any case, we were glad we could observe them from an elevated walkway.
Then we wanted to go to the beach, which turned out to be a bit tricky. Ultimately, we ended up on Sanibel Island — supposedly a great spot, but we were a bit disappointed. Maybe we picked the wrong beach section, but the sand was quite coarse. There were shells, yes, but not as many as we had read about. The water was still stirred up from the remnants of the hurricane and was more gray-green than turquoise-blue — all in all, not a hit. So we didn't stay long, collected a few of the larger shells, and headed towards Cape Coral with the destination: POOL! 😂
But first, there was a stop for cake and cocktails. This massive piece of chocolate cake cost about $4.50 and was worth every cent. I ate off it for three days because you can't eat that much cream and sweetness all at once, but it was truly a delight.
In the evening, we chilled by the pool with Helmut the bunny, cocktails, and soft music — an amazing time!!!
