Day 5: Karikari Peninsula - Waipu

A dreamy view from the camper van! As soon as Pia enjoys her morning bath, Thömi can't resist either.

In Paihia, we enjoy delicious Thai food and stock up on supplies at the supermarket. However, alcohol is only available with both passports (ID is not enough).

In the afternoon, we have a great tour of the 'Kawiti Glow Worm Caves'. Only one other tourist, so it's almost a private tour. The local Maori tells us all about the stalactites, stalagmites, glow worms, and Maori culture.

'Freedom camping' is full, wild camping is not allowed, and the campsite is very expensive, and we are slowly getting tired and hungry. So, we end up at a moderately nice (but free) spot right next to a road.

Campsite: Waihoihoi River Park
