Jetlag

In Taiwan and mainland China, local summer time is six hours ahead. For those who occasionally have to think about it, like me: The sun rises in the east, and therefore it was already earlier for the people in the eastern countries than for me, where I currently am. Therefore:

While it has dragged me out of bed in Vienna at four o'clock in the early dawn to write this blog post, my 'internal clock' is still on the way - between Taiwan and Beijing it is currently 7 o'clock, time for my morning journal.

I took the title selfie yesterday after arriving at Vienna Schwechat on the S7 ride into the city, between Praterstern and Handelskai at 7:45 AM. Despite a shortened sleeping time, I don't look that tired. No wonder, since I've already described the short-sleep advantages of Beijing Capital Airport (PEK), where I had a layover of about 5 hours between 10 PM and 3 AM, in an earlier blog post.

On my return trip, I particularly remembered Taipei Main Station. The station is connected on multiple levels to a shopping mall of enormous size. I was there on Saturday; people were strolling, eating, and shopping as much as they could. And it was not easy to find the luggage locker position where I had stored my backpack so I could still wander around the city center and take a look at the National Taiwan Museum. What fascinated me were the retail outlets selling stuff for young people.

From the National Taiwan Museum, I brought back three videos of about six minutes long - filmed with my phone - titled: The People of Taiwan, The Nature of Taiwan, The Hero in the Field (the latter about the ethnologist Ushinosuke MORI).

I would gladly show and comment on these videos personally whenever possible. Just watching could miss too much, unlike tourism videos. These three films are certainly not like that.
