Day 4: Mar del Plata. An exploration tour

Today I actually wanted to go to the beach and swim in the Atlantic. Unfortunately, it rained this morning, and the day was overcast.

So I decided to take an extensive exploration tour through the city.

Mar del Plata is probably the most popular seaside resort in Argentina (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar_del_Plata).

My first destination was the Casino Central.

You’d think you’d arrive at a venerable old casino and then this:

O tempora, o mores.

Well, I did manage to find a few roulette tables.

Maybe I'll gamble $10 tonight. ;)

Then I continued to the promenade. Here are a couple of impressions:

Next, I walked along the promenade to the pier:

Loud music then drew me back south along the promenade.

The reason for the music was a soundcheck for a party taking place on Monday. It's probably for the South American Sports Betting Games. Of course, I'm in. ;)

Okay, promenade checked off. Back to the city.

Here’s a park in honor of Columbus.

This is the pedestrian zone in Mar del Plata. Very busy. All shops are open, even though it’s Sunday.

The police are present everywhere but are quite passive. I often asked police officers, for example, for directions since they know their way around and mostly speak English. Everyone is very polite and nice.

Here’s a great idea, perhaps the largest date display in the world. Quite cool:

Everywhere there are small markets where Nike shoes only cost a quarter. Well, you know how it is. Cute.

And traffic lights here are more like suggestions. I’ve adapted. Note the police car in the background and the red light that I’m currently passing.

I’m slowly falling in love with this country and this city. Live and let live. No stress. Everyone treats each other kindly.

This suits my 'project.' ;)
