Lower South ....

Published: 30.01.2019

Since Guerrero Negro we have been in the part of Baja California Sur. Commonly known as the more rugged part with changing landscapes and the more beautiful coastlines. The capital is La Paz, which is our next destination.

However, we only want to replenish our supplies and then continue to El Tecolote where we want to meet our acquaintances and gather information about the crossing to the mainland. The information is consistently positive and we will also obtain the necessary temporary import permit for the Defender, which is not required in Baja.

At El Tecolote, beach, sun and sea meet a beach bar for the first time, which leads to a slightly more extensive tasting. The evening is also a bit longer.

From La Paz southwards again through hilly terrain to Los Barriles. An area heavily influenced by snowbirds (wintering, mostly older US citizens) with a fine sandy beach and all the amenities of beach life. Nevertheless, we stay for two days to do laundry and relax our souls with some margaritas. The paddleboard is also used, unfortunately without any significant sightings of marine creatures.

The off-road trail to Cabo Pulmo on the southernmost part of the east coast is tempting. Unfortunately, the weather is cloudy and after a few weeks we once again have some rain accompanied by our old friend, the wind. Apart from some walks and a visit to the bleak Cabo Pulmo lined with diving schools, there are no experiences.

A little further on, we find a beautiful beach for the next overnight stay. Here we can do some snorkeling. Unfortunately, without an underwater camera, as I had to discover that my camera housing has a crack. Damned... At least some colorful fish can be seen.

Curious is the transition from corrugated road to concrete road, which ends abruptly after a few hundred meters, just as it started.
