Our next port today was Da Nang. It is the fourth largest city in Vietnam. We had planned a visit to the old town of Hoi An. The city was very interesting with its old houses, shops, and many lanterns. Among other things, we visited a covered bridge from Japanese times and a Chinese pagoda. Later, we talked to two young Vietnamese women (32 years old) who actually wanted to sell us souvenirs. They both had plenty of children from different men and were expecting children again. We didn't buy anything from them, but we gave them some money for food. By the way, an old used moped costs around $1,000. It is a mystery to me how there can be so many of them.
It is always admirable how cheerful and friendly the people here are, despite being so poor.
To conclude the tour, we went to a hotel by the sea to swim. The beaches here are also very beautiful and the government is investing exceptionally in tourism. Many hotels are being built. In ten years, something massive will be created here.
Maybe it will be a replacement for Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia, etc.
Anyway, it was a very interesting day. There is so much more to write, but time is running out.
