Day 2 in Hong Kong

The weather was perfect with sunshine and pleasant temperatures of over 20°. Today, we had a tour around Hong Kong with a large number of participants. But that didn't matter because we wanted to see Hong Kong. We had a cute Chinese tour guide who spoke some German.

First, we went to the highest mountain in Hong Kong (about 500 m). From there, we had a beautiful view of Hong Kong and the different islands. On the bus, we discussed the question of rent again. It turned out that most apartments of the less affluent residents are only 20 to a maximum of 30 m² in size. When you think that the kitchen and bathroom have to be shared, you can imagine how little space people have to live in. These apartments are cheaper because they are provided by the government. The annual income of these people is about €12,000.

After our little mountain summit, we went back to the water.

We took small boats (ten people) to a floating restaurant, which made a very well-maintained impression. The meal was included in the trip, only drinks had to be paid separately. Anne treated herself to a glass of white wine, which cost about ten euros. Eating here is quite different from what we are used to. Initially, only one dish is placed in the bowl on the table, and everyone at the table thinks that it won't be enough for everyone. At regular intervals, new bowls appear with other dishes, so you quickly forget the thought of not getting full. There are also many spicy sauces.

Then we continued towards the beach, where we were shown another Buddha (this time the Money Buddha). It was a beautiful environment, with the addition that we accidentally discovered a shop that sold Tesla cars. That was very interesting, and it was my first time sitting in such a car. The navigation system was almost as big as my office screen. Amazing!

Unfortunately, the salesman did not accept orders. If I couldn't get a car, I wanted to buy a base cap from Tesla at least. Since he was not set up for cash and our credit card systems did not match, we couldn't do business.

Next, we planned to visit a market. It was not very exciting, so I went for a coffee by then.

The journey back to the ship was less eventful but long. Besides housing problems, Hong Kong also has a significant traffic problem.com. However, everything is calm and orderly, and many roads have tolls.

So far, it has been a really beautiful and interesting day, if only I hadn't somehow lost my boarding pass while traveling. I stood in the rain like a fool during immigration, and the Chinese wouldn't let me board. I had everything stored on my phone (passport, etc.), but nothing worked. Anne had to go on board and get me a new boarding pass. Since the distances here are quite long, I could spend the next hour just watching other people check-in.

In conclusion, Hong Kong was very positive, and we can only recommend it as a travel destination.

In the evening, we had a small birthday celebration. Mr. Reuter turned 66 on that day (nice guests from Berlin, with whom we have sat together before). We have had more contact with both of them, and it's always interesting to hear their stories from the time when they were both working for Interflug.

When we reached our cabin around midnight, Anne suddenly felt the need for a washing machine (which is very close to our cabin). I think it went on until 1:00 am. I didn't notice the end anymore.
