The time had come, the introductory seminar was getting closer and closer... excited but also a bit skeptical, I took the train from Morsum to Rickling. On the train, I met other BFD volunteers / FSJ volunteers who are also doing their social year on Sylt. Arriving in Rickling, we made our way together to the conference center (Freizeitheim Fichtenhof, An der Kirche 1, Rickling). In the conference center, Alina and Eva (team leaders for group 3) welcomed us. After the settling-in phase, everyone gathered in the seminar room and the introductions could begin. (Ice-breakers, cooperation games, etc.) I was surprised that everyone was so open and harmonious. As a group, we already worked together really well on the first evening. On Tuesday, the topic was rights & responsibilities in the BFD / FSJ, as well as exchange of experiences among each other. In the evening, there was a creative activity; we were allowed to paint bags. It was very interesting to hear about the experiences the others had in their respective placements. On Wednesday, the focus was on competencies, getting to know oneself better personally, discovering strengths anew or acquiring new competencies. In the afternoon, we talked about ideas for projects that we will carry out during the FSJ / BFD. Excited for the next day, we ended the evening in a small group with Federweiser. On Thursday, we went to Kiel to spend a day in a wheelchair alternately. This experience makes you rethink the physical effort involved and especially how society perceives you. The closing evening with bonfire, bread on a stick and music brought the group even closer together. During this time, I met many new people and I am so glad that I chose to do the BFD on Sylt. It is worth it!
