Today in Recife, we started the day so relaxed that even sloths would have nodded in respect. While other crazies were already doing gymnastics around six in the morning, we were still lying down, doing the right thing: nothing. Four hours of sleep – no one felt like doing morning exercises or had any desire to snorkel.
Instead, we went to Olinda. A colonial neighborhood, beautiful, a bit run down but in that charming way that makes you think immediately: I could throw everything away and start selling Caipirinhas here. We sat on a terrace overlooking the rooftops of Recife and for a moment, life was almost unreasonably good.
On the way back, we rolled past the harbor – weekly market, live music, the usual madness. Two Caipirinhas later, it was clear: staying here would be just fine. Massage? Pushed to tomorrow at 6 PM. Who cares. Tonight, we’ll eat well and lounge around on the beach. The nice thing about Sunday? No cars, Germany should take a page from this.
Recife – loud, wild, huge. And just right like that.
