Jaguars in Porto Jofre

On June 18, 2026, we experienced one of the biggest highlights of our trip to Brazil in Porto Jofre: encountering jaguars in the wild.

Early in the morning, around 4 AM, we set off from our lodge towards Porto Jofre so that the safari could start promptly at 7 AM. The day began with rather bad weather, but it gradually improved as the day went on.

The safari itself was just amazing. The Pantanal feels almost like an outdoor zoo because you can observe animals in their natural environment in so many places. We saw an incredible number of animals – including jaguars, caimans, many birds, bats, monkeys, and many other creatures.

Especially exciting was the moment when we finally spotted the jaguars and could observe them up close. It was an absolutely impressive experience to see a jaguar eating a caiman. This encounter was unforgettable for us and definitely one of the absolute highlights of our Brazil trip.
