31. Travel Day

This morning we already have our first fog. We continue on the Strada Statale SS 172, traveling 220 km north. The area around Vieste on the Adriatic Sea is our next stop for two days. As soon as we get on the road, the temperatures rise to 26°C. We are making good progress, despite a little traffic jam on the Strada. In Bari, we see the Adriatic for the first time. It will accompany us the entire route. We navigate through charming streets and squares in towns like Margherita di Savoia and Zapponeta. Miles of seawater saltworks appear beside the road, where flamingos are already frolicking. Mounds of salt rise up at the roadside. Ruins accompany us the entire way. Magical landscapes offer ever more beautiful views. As we pass through the Foresta Umbra, we see the damage from the wildfires in August of this year. A little further along, we reach our destination: Camping and rooms EURO 92. Marianne, Christl, and Hans immediately jump into the sea after setting up. Phew, not as warm as in the south but very refreshing. Briefing....
