Eighth Stage on the Camino Portugues da Costa from Baiona to Vigo

Published: 23.09.2024

This morning I set off under a clear blue sky. The hotel manager suggested I walk through the city to the Camino, as there is always a market on Mondays. Indeed, the vendors had started setting up their stalls. The market was huge. I really hadn't expected it to be so long. At the end, the street crossed with the Camino and I was already on my way ;-).

I had already mentioned that another stage had been the most beautiful. But I am revising THAT, today's stage is the MOST BEAUTIFUL for me.

I had briefly sat down in a café just past the market. From there, there was a great view of Baiona and I could hear the waves. The Atlantic was very calm today. Oh, it was wonderful. I could have stayed there the whole time. With a heavy heart, I set off. Then two dogs ran in front of me playing with each other, and I had to think of Littlefoot. Phew, I was completely lost in thoughts about my two ladies at home. I really became sad and felt homesick.

In the next town, I stood in front of a small harbor, staring blankly. It wasn't until someone placed a hand on my shoulder that I noticed the Mainzelmännchen (a group of characters from German TV). Walter said I was deep in thought. Oh yes, I was :-). We were thrilled to see each other again so quickly. They asked if I would go with them. No, I just want to have a drink first, and I mentioned that I was feeling homesick. Wanda hugged me, saying she could understand that. We chatted a bit more, and then we said simultaneously, until the next meeting on the Camino :-)!

After a delicious fresh orange juice, I continued my walk. Ahead of me lay a long beach promenade and to the left a wonderful white sandy beach. I didn't have to think long. I walked back a short distance and took off my socks and shoes in the sand below. Oh, by the way, the new shoes are amazing! Zero problems! I then walked the entire long sandy stretch barefoot through the water. It was fantastic. At the end, I sat in the sand and stared at the sea.

After my feet were freed from the last grain of sand, I continued. There were still some beautiful coves ahead. This stage was truly amazing. At least until I reached Vigo (the big harbor). Phew, there was a lot of traffic here, and there were quite a few construction sites, which wasn't great. I was relieved when I arrived in the old town. There, I first had a delicious lunch before heading to the hotel. Here I am now, exhausted from the tour and feeling even more homesick ;-(!!!!! I would prefer to fly home :-(!

Today, the stage was nearly 24 km and absolutely beautiful :-)!

Best regards, Anke :-)

In Baiona sind wir über den sehr großen schönen Markt gelaufen, bevor wir weiter geradelt sind. Vigo war selbst für uns Radler nicht prickelnd.
