The Postojna Cave, also known as the queen of the underground world, is not just a cave, but a system of 12 different caves with a total length of over 24km and three different levels. The upper level is where the Pivka River flows. The lower two levels consist of accessible halls and caves. Out of the total 24km, 3.5km are open for visitors. You can also visit a vivarium and the associated castle. There are various options and combinations of tours. We chose to visit the cave.
The tours are conducted in 4 languages: English, Slovenian, Italian, and German. Audio guides are also available for rent.
First, you ride 2km through the cave system, and then you explore a one and a half kilometer long route with a guide. The caves are truly unique in their size and beauty. Taking pictures was difficult because the tour was a bit challenging.
After the tour, we found a beautiful place to stay a few kilometers away. At the old Haasberg Castle. It was built in the early 17th century by the Eggenberg princes at the foot of an old medieval castle that was destroyed by an earthquake.
Here, time has stood still. A dreamy place on earth.
