Almond blossom in Andalusia

Published: 14.02.2024

We drove into the mountains to see the almond blossom, up and down the serpentines again, via Competa to Daimalos. From there we hiked over the ridges through almond and olive plantations to Arenas. It was quite steep up and down, but we were rewarded with beautiful views over the valleys where the almond blossom had just begun. When we arrived in Arenas, a small town in the mountains, with steep and winding streets, as is usual here :-), we had plenty of calories! Afterwards we tried to return to Daimalos on another hiking trail (poorly signposted), which demanded everything from us and took us pretty far up the wrong path onto the next mountain ridge, phew!!! In the far distance on the other side of the valley we could see Daimalos. Ultimately we ended up on private property, which was clearly communicated to us. We then took the not entirely safe route along the road for the last short section. It took us 6 hours to complete a hiking trail that was stated to take about 2.5 hours. It was great anyway, or perhaps because of it.
