What a coincidence - we meet wallabies :-)

The day starts rainy and gray. We take the opportunity to start the day and its program a little slower.

First, we drive into the town of Apollo Bay. Souvenir shops are the target. Why, by now, everyone reading our blog should know.

We find some treasures and even go to the beach, which is just a few meters away. A very beautiful long beach with nice sand and blue sea.

Our next destination leads us to the oldest lighthouse on the Australian mainland and the most significant one, according to the explanation online. So we drive the short distance to Cape Otway, where the lighthouse we want to see stands.

On the way there, I randomly see something small and dark at the roadside in the greenery, jumping like a kangaroo. Brake and stop! Thorsten runs back the short distance to see what it actually was or still is. And he finds a wallaby with a joey. They are not particularly disturbed by Thorsten, who is taking pictures and short videos from the other side of the road. The two little animals are very cute. Eventually, they hop further into the bushes and disappear.

Upon arriving at Cape Otway, we get access to the grounds and a glimpse into the residence and telegraph station of the lighthouse for a contribution of 10 dollars each as an entrance fee and learn a lot about life there in the 19th century.

However, we also receive constant and unwanted company from flies. They are always around and annoying. They settle on our skin, on our clothes, and are simply irritating. We have to constantly swat them away, otherwise, they crawl into all the body openings that are exposed...

The lighthouse itself is closed and cannot be accessed. Thus, it makes sense to charge admission for the grounds. Instead of a lighthouse, a lot of flies...

After the lighthouse, we head to the next highlight: the rainforest area “Maits Rest Rainforest Walk”. At least there are no flies here.

The walk is a path of about 30 minutes through actual rainforest area. Huge fern formations and old, tall trees. This flora is simply fantastic... and how the green has claimed its space here, creating a rainforest atmosphere with plants and trees.

After so much nature (flies and rainforest), we needed a break and our cookies... with which we ended our day trip.
