Leaving O’ahu – Starting to Cruise

Published: 27.10.2024

The morning was spent on organizational matters. Before that, however, we ate the last bagels, this time without the 'wet sausage,' as everything was used up and buying a new pack would have been too much. As a result, we could only top the bagels with the precisely calculated slices of provolone cheese. Yes, we calculate very carefully how much bagels and cheese we need for the days. The 'wet sausage' cannot be quantified in slices, as the package consists of a 'sausage package' without slice specifications. But we have a pretty good feeling for how long we can make it last. We're not newcomers in that regard...

Afterwards, it was time to pack our suitcases. Although saying suitcase packing is a bit much, because we only had to rearrange a little since we hadn’t really unpacked but rather lived out of the suitcase.

Günther still had a lot to catch up on for the blog. Since the previous two days were filled with excursions and therefore a later return to the hotel was involved, he had refrained from the blog late in the evening. The blog is time-consuming: describing the day, reviewing pictures beforehand, sorting, deciding which picture goes in which order in the blog, and then uploading everything... Creating a status like other people do is quicker...

By noon, we had finished everything and checked out. We ordered an Uber driver who arrived two minutes later in front of the hotel and took us to the Norwegian pier in Honolulu.

Checking in to the ship was easy. Everything went calmly and shortly afterwards, we were on board. The first exploration of the ship showed us that it was smaller compared to our previous ships. The Norwegian Sun also has a lower passenger capacity. With nearly 1900 passengers, it is relatively small. But basically a nice ship. The ship came down from Alaska to Hawaii, and from there, we continue to French Polynesia... A pretty nice ride...

Of course, we also looked around to see how or better where the dining is happening. It stands out that many of the new guests generously help themselves directly at the buffet and stuff themselves 'a whole pig with cream'... As if there would be nothing to eat on board tomorrow (or tonight)...

In contrast, we allowed ourselves two small pieces of cake. Afterwards, our suitcases also arrived at the stateroom, so we could unpack – yes, this time we did – and then waited for the sun to set and the ship to depart around 7 PM.

The next destination was Maui, where we were supposed to dock the next morning.
