India is when they tell you that a friend has invited us and you suddenly find yourself with wet hair in a chill look, taken to a fancy event full of doctors with 70 people, where they then spontaneously ask you for a speech and you deliver at 11 PM, even though you were unprepared. (That's what a month in India does to you.)🕺🏽
Week 6: February 9-15
Monday, February 9:
After getting to sleep in a bit, we are finally graced by the presence of Tina's parents. Unfortunately, their flight had been canceled on Friday, which required them to rebook, so they could only spend two days with us. But that morning they arrived and were picked up from the airport by Yashoda and Raghunath while we were getting ready for school until we could greet them. After that, Tina, Raghunath, and I headed to the old Delhi Public School ahead of time, as the farewell ceremony for the twelfth grade was about to take place. The girls had to wear saris (Indian dresses) and the boys suits, so we dressed up as well and wore saris. However, since it consisted of a blouse, a petticoat, and a scarf that becomes the sari, the Didis had to help us properly and neatly drape and wear the scarf. Everyone was thrilled with our appearance. Then we watched one of Harish’s dance classes with a primary school class before welcoming Tina’s parents and Yashoda (Ma'am) at the school, as they were also to attend the event. After several photos taken by all of us, we watched the ceremony. Several speeches were held, and awards were presented before all twelfth graders were allowed to light a candle in front of the goddess of education. After that, there was a huge buffet for everyone, which we also enjoyed after we showed Tina's parents around the school a bit. Then Yashoda and Raghunath took care of some administrative tasks while the rest of us sat in the conference room next door and chatted.
