The Ötztaler Radmarathon passed right by our hotel early this morning. Well, cyclists 'among themselves' ... except that they cover 238 km and an incredible 5,500 meters in elevation in just over seven hours, while we estimate about 4 days for that... must be something about the bike;)
Today, the cycle path largely followed along roads, rivers, and railways. We had quite the noise for the first two hours. But it's no wonder, as the valley is narrow and everyone has to pass through. And in the midst of it all, huge piles of gravel, waste from the construction of the Brenner Base Tunnel. According to the information board, once completed in 2022, the railway tunnel will connect Innsbruck to Franzenfeste and be the longest in the world at 55 km. The second half of today's 60 km stage was quieter and mostly downhill. A relief, considering we already have covered a total of 1,270 km so far.
