After visiting Los Angeles, we continued our journey towards the Fiji Islands. From LA, we went to Honolulu and had a brief stop in Samoa before heading to Nadi, the capital of Fiji. Since we crossed the date line, we lost the entire 8th of March. Before that, it was -9 hours, and suddenly we were on +11 hours! It was a bit confusing. However, our arrival in Nadi was marred by our missing luggage. Four (!) people were missing their bags, and of course, we were two of them! We arrived on Saturday, and thankfully, they were returned to us on Monday afternoon.
Our beach at the hotel was not a typical South Sea paradise. It reminded us more of the Pacific coastline of Costa Rica. However, we did take a catamaran trip to a beautiful sea spot. It was truly spectacular there, and we could also go snorkeling. The locals are a very, very nice people, very friendly and accommodating to the point that it was sometimes a little eerie. We were also lucky with the hotel. It had just recently reopened. It was not very crowded, and there was no rush during breakfast or at the pool with the sun loungers.
In terms of the sea, it is still comparable to Thailand. After a very long travel time, it’s worth considering whether to visit Thailand instead or to combine it with a trip to Australia or New Zealand. After 5 days, we then headed to Singapore.
