Tag 63: Franz Josef Glacier Kayaking

The weather on the mountainous west coast is unpredictable. Nevertheless, we trust that the sun will shine today and we will have a beautiful kayaking tour.

Kayaking on the glacier lake and especially along the narrow river arm is great. 7km and 3 hours in the peaceful and beautiful nature.

We don't see the glacier, but from our point of view, it was a very worthwhile tour. Since the clouds are low in the mountains today, we skip the walk to the glacier and continue north.

On the way, we visit 'Paddy' (a replica of the largest found gold nugget in New Zealand) in Ross and take a walk through the jade city of Hokitika before settling down at the beautiful campground at Lake Kaniere.
