In the afternoon we arrived in Dagebüll, from where we planned to take the ferry to Amrum the next morning.

Dagebüll
Dagebüll

This left us time for a stroll through the small tourist town.

We walked along the dike by the water, passing some sheep that, although a bit sluggish, preferred to move aside when we approached.

We walked up to the small church of the village, which was unfortunately locked after 6 PM.

We passed colorful wooden houses on our way back to the island parking lot, where we spent the night.

So the next morning it was not far to the ferry, which we boarded at 7:15 AM.

Dunes on Amrum
Dunes on Amrum

First, we took the bus to Norddorf, a village in the northern part of Amrum.

From here it was not far to the sandy beach with the large dunes.

The Kniepsand is geologically part of the marine area and not the island, but it accounts for ten square kilometers of land area.

We walked along the beach until we reached a small lighthouse, with a path leading away from the beach through the dunes.

We continued on a boardwalk, of which we encountered several on the island.

In this area, there was a village during the Iron Age, where remains of houses and burial sites were found during excavations.

Two houses have been reconstructed and rebuilt to illustrate life during the Iron Age.

We reached a bird trap, where migratory birds used to be caught, which now serves as a protected area.

Apart from a few ducks, we didn't see any birds, but there was an enclosure with fallow deer.

Our path then took us through the forest until we reached the village of 'Nebel'.

Here we fortified ourselves with a fish sandwich and took a look at the thatched church from the outside.

In the cemetery, there are the 'storytelling graves'.

The gravestones are inscribed with the life stories of the deceased, and now you can also listen to them with the help of the QR codes set up for this purpose.

We also took a detour to the mill, where the Amrum Local History Museum is housed, but found that it was currently on its lunch break.

We continued along the water next to a cliff and bird sanctuary.

As we came to a dike path, a light rain began, and the wind picked up.

At the end of the path, we went through dunes near Wittdün before returning to the village.

After we had replenished ourselves with coffee and cake, we took the ferry back to the mainland.

Actually, we were planning to travel to Föhr the next day. However, we decided against it because the weather forecast predicted a storm and heavy rain...
