In the morning we were greeted by raindrops and a gray sky. At first, we waited, and the weather forecast promised a steady improvement, which kept getting pushed later. So, despite the rain, we set off towards Orth.
Orth
Here, the TV series “Nord bei Nordwest” is filmed, which takes place in the fictional town of Schwanitz. At the harbor, we saw the houseboat of the veterinarian and commissioner. As the rain intensified, we initially sought refuge in a very nice café at the harbor while waiting for sunshine.

Since that sunshine did not arrive, we eventually set out in the rain – after all, we had put on our rain pants and were equipped with umbrellas.
on the dyke
Our path led us over the dyke, where we had to avoid puddles and the droppings of the dyke sheep, who curiously observed us.

We did not take the direct route to the Flügger Lighthouse, but made a detour past a campsite, where we fled to its restaurant from the increasingly heavy showers.

With a fish sandwich in our stomachs, we continued along the beach. The path was lined with beach roses and offered a beautiful view of the water.

Upon reaching the Flügger Lighthouse, we decided against climbing it due to poor visibility, and instead walked back over the dyke.

The rest of the day was spent with books and an escape room game in the RV while hoping for better weather the next morning.
Nature Reserve Wallnau
Indeed, we were greeted by the sun in the morning, so we drove to the Nature Reserve Wallnau to wrap up the weekend.

In the lake landscape, many birds can be observed, which also nest here.

The NABU maintains the facility and runs a visitor center, which, however, will remain closed in 2025 due to restructuring. In the meantime, the outdoor area can currently be visited for free during the day.

There are various cabins for bird watching. The openings allow birds to remain undisturbed by humans.
View through binoculars
We saw many nests of gulls, avocets, and river terns.

The area is beautifully laid out, and besides various observation huts, there was also a viewing tower, forest paths, a frog pond, and a barefoot path.
