A Day in Saarburg
Audio tour through the historic wine town

Since it was too far for us to drive all the way home from Saarburg in one go, we decided on an overnight stay and a stop along the way.
When I used Google to research what there was to do along the A1 motorway, the AI suggested several cities (which we already knew) and Vischering Castle (which I had never heard of).
After seeing a picture of the castle surrounded by a moat, the decision was quickly made and we set off for the moated castle.
It wasn't actually that close to the motorway, but we took the detour for a nice break from driving through the motorway construction zones.
A small but beautifully designed exhibition told the story of the castle, which was first documented in the 13th century.
Their history was marked by disputes between the noble rulers of the land.
Afterwards, we went to the café on the castle grounds, which is housed in the former riding stables. We had coffee and cake in a former horse stall, which had been furnished with tables and chairs instead of hay bales.
