On the Road of the Kasbahs - from the Desert to the Snow (Studiosus Travel Highlights of Morocco)

After the New Year’s Eve celebration on the last evening, we were allowed to sleep in a bit longer and then set off from Boumalme in a relaxed manner, though still somewhat tired.

Along the way, we saw the first Kasbahs, true adobe structures designed to protect their inhabitants from attacks.

There are several of them in the settlement of Ait Benhaddou, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The old settlement is abandoned by its residents but is populated by traders who fill the narrow streets with souvenirs, as many tourists come here.

We walked a bit between the adobe houses and enjoyed the view of the surrounding mountains.

The journey continued through the mountains, which rose colorfully before us.

There was snow at higher altitudes on the Atlas Mountains, and we made several stops to take photographs.

When we crossed the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass at 2260 meters above sea level, we could get out directly and walk in the snow that lay here.

On our way, we also saw some Moroccan families who had come to the mountains to go sledding or build snowmen.

On a winding road, we went back down into the valley.

We drove on through the plain to Marrakech, which we reached in the evening and planned to explore more closely in the coming days.
