Since our flight to Portugal was scheduled to take off early in the morning, we traveled to Hamburg the day before.
The journey by train went surprisingly smoothly: After all trains in the morning were canceled due to a medical emergency, ours was the first train to run to the central station again and even arrived on time.
Alsterarkaden
In the city, we took a short walk from Jungfernstieg over the town hall and St. Nicholas Church to the HafenCity.
Hamburg Town Hall
There, we had purchased tickets for the Port des Lumières in the afternoon, to see the new exhibition on “Asterix and Obelix.”
Asterix & Obelix - an immersive adventure
During this exhibition, a small story about the famous Gauls is told alongside projections in a large room, where they must embark on a quest to find their kidnapped druid.

After a coffee, we headed to the airport hotel, where we spent the night.
St. Catherine's Church
After a friendly check-in, we unfortunately had to find out in front of our hotel room door that the key card was not working. Since some guests were waiting at the reception, it took a while for a staff member to come with us. He then discovered that the battery of the door lock was empty and the master key also did not open the door. Therefore, a manual key had to be procured before we could access our room and the batteries could be replaced. As compensation, we received a voucher for a drink at the hotel bar, which was a nice conclusion to our day of arrival.

We were able to check in our luggage that evening and only had to get up at 4 AM the next morning to start for Porto around 6 AM.
