Week 13 to 14: Ming Tombs

Published: 30.12.2019

The week started with a sponsored group trip to the Ming Tombs. In the best sunny weather, we first went to the Soul Way. Along this path, there are always pairs of human and animal sculptures that symbolize the emperor's honor guard. A path that makes you think and invites you to linger. After a short bus ride, we visited 2 more tombs: Dingling and Changling. All powerful structures with large parks.

2 days later we went to the Fragrant Hills (525m high, about 20 km before the gates of Beijing). To get there, you have to first walk along a great food street, where you can buy everything from octopus skewers to candied apples. Then we finally went up the Fragrant Hills with another beautiful park. With a fantastic view of the autumn foliage, in the sunshine and views of the porcelain pagodas and small temple buildings, the ride is really beautiful. Once arrived at the top, traders have set up their stalls everywhere. In addition to souvenirs, there are also all kinds of culinary delights, especially noodle soup with freshly drawn noodles, called Baozi, and thick potato chips on a skewer. Strengthened, we started the descent, which is laid out in switchbacks and many steps. Everywhere you can buy pressed, laminated leaves of the region or take drinks with you. The temple buildings are laid out in a winding manner, and the pagoda is beautiful. An excursion that is definitely worth repeating.

A nice St. Martin's festival at school with a lantern parade, as well as baking St. Martin's men at home, rounded off the week. On the weekend, Leonie's friend slept over, and the first cookies were baked.

The next week was a bit quieter in terms of activities. In addition to school, work, and studying, there was an interesting film evening at school about life in China and the parents' council meeting. Finn stayed overnight at his friend's house on the weekend, and on Sunday, the Christmas season was heralded with a great Christmas party hosted by Refox (Relocation). With coffee and cake and great Christmas cookies, there were craft and game stations for the children. Santa Claus also stopped by with small gifts.
