Keep on walking. Don’t stop.

Published: 12.05.2018

Since yesterday I have a sore throat, a little headache, my legs hurt... not to mention my inner well-being. But as the hospitalero of my hostel yesterday said: 'Keep on going. Walk on. Don’t stop.' And since everyone else is walking and I'm here for that exact reason, there really isn't an alternative. So I keep walking. Approximately 19 km from Logroño to a small quiet place called Ventosa, which is a little higher up. Everything somehow heals along the way. Occasionally it rains and gets windier. But the more I walk, the better I feel. Sometimes in the morning I'm unmotivated or sad. But everything fades away along the way. I walked a bit with Doro, whom I met a few days ago in the most beautiful cathedral in Los Arcos. Someone said yesterday that the Camino is like a whole life in fast forward. Compressed into a few weeks. And she's right. You meet people, you walk a part of the way together and then you lose each other. Sometimes you meet them again. Sometimes not.

In the few days that I have been on the road now, I have met so many amazing, interesting, funny and lovely people. Some I will never see again. But you can't influence it. Some are far ahead, some are far behind. I have to run my own pace. And then the people and things that I'm supposed to see will come to me. No matter what you do or say in life, it all has an impact on how our future will unfold. And no matter what we try, life will simply happen. So I'm not trying to influence or hold onto anything. And let it happen. And accept what is supposed to happen and who I'm supposed to meet and whether I'm supposed to meet someone again.
