Since I completely missed Lake Titisee during yesterday's stage, I imposed the penalty upon myself today to circle the entire lake. 🤣

No, that's not entirely true! I would have done that anyway! I'm not the hiker I used to be, but I still enjoy moving, even if I'm a bit slower now. I've increased my average speed again by recording my bus ride home to the hotel as well.

Unfortunately, breakfast here doesn't start until 8 AM, but in winter it's already at 7:30 AM. I really don't understand this logic. In summer, you want to start early when the weather is nice for hiking, but in winter it's still pitch dark. Since my bus departs at 08:25, there's not much time left.

However, I could start earlier, so it was enough, and I caught the bus without any problems. Just 20 minutes later, I got off in Titisee, greeted by beautiful weather.

The biggest attraction in Titisee is surely the lake of the same name; at least I didn't find anything else on the internet. The boats were prepared at the lake shore. Apparently, they were expecting a large influx. At the moment, the roads were still quite empty.

For me, such a boat tour on the lake wouldn't be particularly appealing. The lake is so small that the entire round trip at a very low speed takes just 25 minutes. I'd rather walk; it takes a bit longer, but you can easily do it in an hour while getting some exercise rather than just killing time.

At the end of the opposite shore, there stands a burned-down farmhouse, which used to be the administrative building of the associated campsite.

Here's what I found about it:

On the night of Pentecost Sunday, **May 24, 2026**, there was a **major fire** at the **Bankenhof campsite** near Hinterzarten/Titisee-Neustadt.

- The **main or administrative building** with **sanitary facilities and several holiday apartments** was **completely burned down**.

- The **property damage** is estimated to be **at least one million euros**.

- The campsite was likely almost fully booked; **all guests were evacuated**, and there were **no serious injuries**. One female firefighter sustained minor injuries from a fall from a ladder.

- The campsite remains **closed** for now, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the authorities and has not yet been clearly determined publicly.

Back in Titisee, I was struck by the craving for ice cream. The ice cream menu looked really tempting and reminded me of the delicious sundaes we had in Buenos Aires.

Since I wanted to do some shopping on the way, I had to leave the bus in Bärental and take the next one back to the hotel an hour later. Just as I had to get off, it started to thunder, but it wasn't too strong yet and the walk wasn't long. ⛈️⚡️
