Route: 90 kilometers, cumulative: 1,832 kilometers | Elevation gain: 250 m, cumulative elevation gain: 7,129 m, distance from home: 198 kilometers (as the crow flies)
Once again, I combined two stages into one today. My last hotel offered breakfast as early as 6:00 a.m. Since great heat was forecast again, I wanted to leave early to benefit from the cool morning air. This allowed me to take my starting photo at 6:50 a.m. and set off immediately. Unlike the last few days, there were a few clouds in the sky, though they didn't provide much shade from the sun. I would have actually preferred a few more fair-weather clouds.
Because of the early start, I had already completed half of the planned trip before 9:00 a.m. If I keep going like this, I’ll be in Günzburg by lunchtime.
In Dillingen, I was once again amazed by the beautiful old town and the wonderfully preserved houses. After a business call, I took a break in a café. I desperately needed a cold drink; I didn't feel like eating since I’d had breakfast at the hotel.
After a short ride on a former railway track, I discovered a Kneipp facility in a small stream by the side of the path. There was also a basin to cool down your arms. Well done! I wonder if it gets used often?
In Gremheim, there was a water station for thirsty travellers. Cyclists seem to be very welcome here.
In Lauingen, slightly off the official cycle path, I found a ruined temple complex. Since I’m not particularly interested in such old ruins, I can’t say much about it. However, if you’re interested, I’d be happy to do a bit of research.
Shortly before my intended destination, a Danube cyclists' filling station (a beer garden) was advertised. Unfortunately, it was closed today – and I was very thirsty again!
Shortly after, I checked what stage was actually planned for tomorrow. It was less than 40 kilometers to Ulm! Since that seemed too short, I spontaneously extended today's ride. Even so, I stayed under 100 kilometers, which is no problem at all.
I quickly found suitable accommodation that offered a special price for a two-day booking. Plus, it’s located close to the old town, which I will explore tomorrow.
