Day 30

Published: 04.10.2022

I woke up in a good mood, well-rested. But it was cloudy again, so breakfast and packing up. I drove to Santiago de Compostela, but I didn't go straight there, I made a short stop in Ordes. There was a pump track. It was drizzling slightly, but it didn't bother me. 🚴🏽‍♂️😅

Pump it up a bit

Quick workout and after several laps and about 15 minutes, I was exhausted (at least for the moment). So back behind the wheel and off to Santiago de Compostela. It was only 20 km away and on the way there, I saw many hikers who were close to their destination after their probably long journey. I parked and rode my bike into the city. I checked out the cathedral, which is the final goal of the Camino de Santiago, and it was bustling with activity.

Almost alone here 😂

The old town was quite nice and there were of course a few shopping streets. After a good hour, I got hungry and had a sandwich at a café. Along with a small beer. Strengthened, I continued and my "four letters" were really hurting. So back to the bus. I had little battery left, so I charged my phone 🪫 and during that time, I FaceTimed with Samuel (Sammy, Samsonite, or Radlersam). I considered whether I should stay here overnight, but I still rode to the Cape of Fisterra. It was the westernmost point of Spain.

A dream

When I parked, I realized that I still needed to do some shopping, but the parking spot was good, so off I went on my bike. Down the hill, 2.6 km downhill with a thrilling top speed of 43 km/h in just under 4 minutes. It was fun, as long as you don't think about having to pedal all the way back up later. 😂 I got tomato sauce, beer, and some snacks. I hadn't even ridden 2 meters and I was already tired. 😕 But what somehow motivated me was a road cyclist who was a few hundred meters ahead of me. He was about 45 years old (so already a slightly older type who still thinks he's in his prime) 🚴🏽‍♂️. But I still left him behind with the help of my thighs. Motivation at its finest. But it was still hellish to get up there, it wasn't a walk in the park. A cold beer awaited me at the bus as a reward. 🍺I showered and then cooked pasta with Bolognese sauce.

A 2nd dream

I briefly watched the sunset at an amazing spot. Absolutely dreamy. I did some dishes in the dark and then went to bed early. 😴
