Full speed ahead

Awesome hostel, awesome people, free coffee. That's how we imagined our Thailand trip. And on Koh Samui, the dream came true. Of course, only Philly could enjoy the triple package, but we scored plenty of powdered milk, a bit of TV drama, and a nice head-nose contusion. Greetings to home. Jokes aside - our hostel on Koh Samui was really beautiful. Unlike our previous accommodations, there were more young people here and we were able to settle in very well. But in reality, not much exciting stuff happened to us. Riding scooters across the island to discover beautiful beaches became our daily routine. So, a few lazy tourist beach days. But we don't want to withhold some small exciting incidents from you. Now that we were skilled scooter pros, our next challenge was a hilly ride inland. The goal: a waterfall in the middle of the Thai jungle - or at least that's what we read on the internet. In reality, the signs led us to unpaved paths consisting of a mix of mud and stones that led us nowhere. You can probably imagine how well such a terrain is for riding on two wheels. After a short attempt to approach the waterfall on foot, we quickly retreated when we realized that even the footpath ended somewhere. But the beautiful surroundings definitely healed our broken hearts, and a freshly picked unripe banana filled our stomachs, although our mouths were still fuzzy and numb for a long time after. Even as the day was coming to an end, we didn't want to miss a visit to the Big Buddha Temple. So we raced along the coast on our scooters and managed to arrive at the Big Buddha five minutes before sunset, despite a few wrong turns. For those who didn't know: the Big Buddha closes at sunset, so we had exactly four minutes and thirty seconds to visit. But we still managed to take some beautiful photos of the giant statue. We thought it was a rewarding day when, dusty and sweaty, we looked for a cool down in the pool. After a few leisurely laps and dives, there was something else certain, so here's a small piece of advice: try to avoid nighttime dives in the pool...it's difficult, if not impossible, to judge distances. Trust us, we learned that the hard way. And so, our very very beautiful mountain tour ended with a frontal impact against the pool wall.

Koh Samui was a beautiful and enlightening time for us, so we had to hold back a tear on the evening of our last day.
