Day #21
Thursday, May 21st
From Petrova Ves to Bratislava
The weather, of course I’m talking about the weather ..., had a hard time deciding today.
I just made it easy for myself and turned around again.
It’s just a small stretch to Bratislava.
If I have time, I can take my time. Sometimes, however, that can also be disastrous.
First, a cozy breakfast and get changed.
It's convenient that the tent has a small anteroom where my stuff is.
Definitely an advantage.
The weather has decided, I can pack my things up dry and start.
Typical, after another 30km of fields, I’m in the forest. Just when you don't need one.
Though it’s only partially suitable, because it’s very open, and it would have been too far for me to cycle yesterday.
I notice how few people I see. Even in the villages.
Somewhere I hear a lawn mower.
Here and there, cars are being walked.
The roads are varied, I ride comfortably and empathize with the birds of prey that are gliding relaxed above me in circles through the air.
I pass through pine forests, which often stand on sandy ground, which again means sandy paths, old acquaintances.
Nevertheless, the city is getting closer, and eventually it’s time to look for accommodation.
I picked an apartment, let’s go on.
Unfortunately, there are some communication issues with the landlord, messages disappear into nirvana, and thus my check-in is delayed by a good hour.
At least I spend part of the time on the phone clarifying the situation at a nice spot by the Danube, along which I have been cycling for a while.
Eventually, all formalities are taken care of, and after my bike is upstairs, I am freshened up and presentable again, it’s off to the city.
Sightseeing and dining. That’s the plan.
The old town is, as my guidebook had prepared me, very manageable.
At least it’s only a bit tragic that I arrived relatively late.
After a walk around the castle, I look for a restaurant for my dinner.
Everywhere there is traditional cuisine, which means meat-heavy dishes.
Out of necessity, I am really hungry and have basically walked every street twice, I quickly grab two slices of pizza to go and become friendly with a döner on the way back when I find another opened restaurant and get a whole pizza.
Then it’s time to head back, tomorrow the Danube bike path awaits me.
Song of the day:
Helloween - Fly ...
