Today we begin our journey to Tromsø, our starting point from 17 days ago. We will travel along many fjords and wonderful beautiful places. In the early evening, we will reach our little house in Tromsø, in a great location and not far from the airport. We will explore the Arctic Cathedral and the Sherpa steps that lead to Fjellheisen.

Fjellheisen Tromsø is a cable car in Tromsø from the district Hungeren to the mountain Storsteinen.

The construction of the first cable car began in 1958. It opened on February 22, 1961. A few months later, the mountain restaurant opened.

During the winter months of 2015/16, the first cable car was decommissioned and completely modernized for 68 million NOK. The station received new gondolas from the company Doppelmayr, new machinery, and the mountain station was expanded with a larger terrace. The mountain station was also renovated to be accessible to people with disabilities and received an elevator. The new cable car began operation in April 2016.

The Sherpa steps in Tromsø are an easy yet rewarding ascent in the summer. The hike is quite steep and requires good footwear. Paths and stairs can be very slippery in wet conditions, ice, and snow.

The path where the Sherpa steps (Sherpa stairs) are located today has always been popular with the people of Tromsø. It became so popular that signs of wear and tear were noticed. This was the basis for constructing a more sustainable path that could accommodate more visitors. The result was the Sherpa stairs, which start right behind the famous Arctic Cathedral.
