Today we are taking a trip to Gjesvaer.

Gjesvær (Sami Geaissvearra) is a fishing village on the Norwegian island Magerøya. Since January 1, 1984, it has been part of the municipality Nordkapp in the province of Finnmark. Approximately 130 people live in Gjesvær, compared to 350 at the beginning of the 1970s.

Bird Safari - The second largest attraction at North Cape This is one of those experiences you only have once in a lifetime. The two-hour boat trip begins in Gjesvaer and goes to the Gjesværstappan Nature Reserve located 15 km west of the North Cape plateau.

It is not permitted to land on the islands, but from the boat, you can observe one of the largest colonies of puffins and common guillemots in all of Norway. The puffins, easily recognizable by their colorful beaks, nest in hollows of the grassy hills.

During the nesting period from April to September, the air and land are very lively. Powerful sea eagles look for prey and soar majestically through the skies. Auks, razorbills, cormorants, Great Black-backed Gulls, fulmars, and gannets make up just a part of the birdlife in the Gjesværstappan Nature Reserve.

During this time, no ships go to Bird Island.

This evening, we will also enjoy a fantastic Northern Lights show.
