Pannonia (Latin Pannonia) was a Province of the Roman Empire from 9 to 433 AD, and was referred to as Illyricum inferius until the middle of the 1st century. The province encompassed the western half of present-day Hungary, Burgenland, parts of Eastern Styria, the Viennese Basin, the region of Syrmia in Serbia, as well as the territory between the Drava(Dravus) and Sava(Savus) that is now part of Slovenia and Croatia. Around 105 AD, the province was divided into two parts, by 300 it was divided into four, and in 433 it was ceded to the Huns under their leader Attila.
