I wish I were a sheep

No, we haven't been eaten by orcs, we just didn't have internet for a while. That happens when you go on vacation with 50 km away from the nearest town. But let's start from the beginning.

After our arrival in Picton, we first headed to the first dead end of the South Island, the Golden Bay.

We drove all the way up to the top, where Farewell Spit, a several kilometers long but very narrow promontory juts into the sea. More or less enjoying ourselves, we walked 4 km on the beach almost to the end of this promontory and then 4 km back. All on the beach. Exclusively. No, that was not actually planned, we just accidentally took the wrong hiking trail. Shit happens. Or beach happens.

So after completing these 8 kilometers of sandy path, we decided to walk our originally planned route in this beautiful weather. It started in a sheep pasture and then led us across a sheep pasture. Afterwards, there was another sheep pasture and on the way back another one. In addition, the trail offered us a breathtaking view of the route we already inadvertently walked and also of the remaining beautiful landscape. Now we definitely know how sheep live. Baa!

Heading back in the southward direction, we made a stop at a farm that we targeted upon personal recommendation. It gave us the opportunity to spend some time with a New Zealand family and in addition, to gain experiences in farm life. However, it also meant living very isolated and without any cell phone reception, which is why we only got in touch again today.

Which brings us to today and the last paragraph of this article. Today, we took a relaxed day trip from Westport to Cape Foulwind where we saw seals playing and lounging in the wild.
