On my trip from Sydney to Cairns, I met many travelers who insisted that I should definitely visit Mission Beach. They also recommended a hostel to me, which I booked for my time before Agnes Water. The place is spread out... There are beautiful beaches and a small town center where you can buy everything you need. The hostel was a bit outside the town, but that wasn't a problem because there was a shuttle bus from the hostel that made 8 stops in the town throughout the day (Greyhound bus stop, supermarket, beaches, etc). On the day I arrived, a heatwave broke out in North Queensland, and it was unbearably hot in the town! It was hot the whole time I was there! Day and night! I was sweating nonstop! 😝🙈
So most of the time, I went from one water spot to the next, as it was most comfortable in the water. So every day, I went to the beach and swam for 2 to 3 hours, even though the water was more like bath temperature, and then I went back to the hostel and jumped into the pool. It was very easy to meet people at the hostel. That's what I liked best about the hostel! There was a bar where I sat with nice people every evening. I always found someone to chat with at the pool. It was really nice! I met great people there! The town is close to the rainforest, so we actually had some visits from snakes at the hostel... I hope that fulfills my quota of snake encounters. 😜😁
