Directions to Montevideo on the Rio de la Plata, which at its mouth is so wide that it is not recognizable as a river. Only the color of the water shows that we are no longer in the Atlantic Ocean.

Our mooring is directly in the container port, there is no separate dock for cruise ships. We explore Montevideo with a hop on/hop off tour. There is only one line, but it covers almost the entire city. Tour buses are of good standard, and explanations of the sights are available in 10 languages, everything is wonderful. Uruguay has approximately 3 million inhabitants, of which 2 million populate the capital Montevideo. The city is spacious and intersected by wide avenues. Lots of greenery, there are many parks in the city, and on every other corner there is a monument commemorating heroes and events of the 19th century independence.

The tour was over after two hours, and we strolled on foot through the old port district with its many small shops. The old market hall was also very impressive, where many small grill restaurants can be found. Just by the aroma alone, you can gain weight🥩! Then back on board, enjoyed a delicious drink, and after dinner, watched the busy activity in the port until it was time to set sail. Overnight, the stage takes us up the Rio de la Plata to Buenos Aires.
