It was raining heavily. With only 9 degrees and wind, nothing was really enjoyable. So I visited a museum about the city's history during the day and had a coffee with Paula and Bryan, who arrived by bus from Dunedin in the afternoon, at a small bistro by the harbor. It was a truly unspectacular day in Oamaru.
At around 4:30 PM, my bus headed towards Christchurch. I had been looking forward to staying at the hotel for a long time. Since the bus stopped some distance from the hotel, I had to carry all my belongings in the rain. I parked my bike under a shelter within sight of the reception. Then came the somewhat uncomfortable question of whether there was a space where I could dry my tent. The staff member had to hold back a laugh when he replied that unfortunately there was no room for that. The reception staff will probably remember me for a long time.
When I arrived in the room, I hung the tent on the rod for the shower curtain after taking a long bath. Tomorrow morning I will pick up the car at the airport and head towards Arthur's Pass, as the weather along the West Coast is forecasted to be good in the coming days and I would like to drive the amazing coastal road between Greymouth and Westport again at my leisure.
